Red Rose Storage are always looking at ways we can reduce our environmental impact, and reducing our carbon footprint was central to the design of our new self storage facility.
Our building has 33 solar panels on our roof, over 20KWh of battery storage and air source heat pumping to our reception and office areas, all of which is backed up by a 100% renewable electric supply tariff with Octopus Energy and we do not use any gas on site – in fact we don’t even have a has supply to the building.
Another major decision we made was to replace our diesel van with a fully electric Mercedes eSprinter van, which we charge with our solar panels, batteries and renewable electric. We allow customers to use the van for free when they move into and move out of storage with us (more details available here).
We strongly believe that being a sustainable business means considering the environmental impact of all our decisions, whether big or small. It is this ethos that has resulted in lots of small gains as well as the big ones – such as printing all leaflets that we distribute on 100% recycled card and sourcing second hand card board boxes which we stamp with our logo and sell to customers for much less than the cost of a new cardboard box.
All of our actions combined has resulted in Chorley Council recognising us as one of six businesses in the borough who are worthy of awarding the Net Zero Business Accreditation. For more information, please visit the Net Zero page of Chorley Council’s website.
